ABOUT DISTRICT COURT
The District of Singhbhum, which includes the South-Eastern portion of present Jharkhand State, is located between 21º 58' and 23º 36' of North Latitude and between 85º 0' and 86º 54' East Longitude. It is one of the oldest district of erstwhile Bihar State and of present Jharkhand State. Chaibasa, situated on the bank of Roro River, is the District Head Quarter since British era. On the 16th November, 1990, on account of some administrative purposes, the district of Singhbhum was divided into two parts. The old Dhalbhum Sub-division became a new district named as Singhbhum East having its headquarter at Jamshedpur and the remaining area became Singhbhum West having its headquarter at Chaibasa. Thereafter, when the Jharkhand State came into existence on the 15th November, 2000, the district of Singhbhum West was again divided into two districts in the year 2001. The area within the Seraikela Sub-division became district of Seraikella-Kharsawan having its headquarter at Seraikella and the rest area remained under the district of West Singhbhum.
The name 'Singhbhum' i.e. the Land of Singhs, is most probably derived from the Patronymic of the Rajas of Porahat who were also known as Rajas of Singhbhum. But, on[...]
